A great tourist story and a very important segment in the mosaic of our tourism that we have absolutely neglected. Let us be proud that we are – Dalmatians, Slavonians, Zagorje, Istrians – Croats. This must be our main tourist product. “Everyone at ZDTVH is delighted with the response of fellow volunteers throughout Croatia, the response of citizens, support and their reactions that have sincerely touched us. As well as citizens’ comments about how they found out details they didn’t know and how they now see their cities in an even more special way. ” points out Kristina Nuić Prka, president of ZDTVH. “Bearing in mind that the success of this project exceeded all our expectations, we can freely say that it has become traditional, which we are very proud of. ” concludes Nuić Prka. The city is not buildings, the city is the people. And when we talk about tourism, the locals are the best ambassadors of Croatian tourism. The locals give rhythm and pulse to the destination, and guests want to get to know us and our culture of living, customs, our stories… There is no worse situation than when a guest asks locals / hosts what to experience in the destination, and they say I don’t know or nothing special. The following cities joined the project: Dubrovnik, Korcula, Split, Salona, Klis, Sinj, Trilj, Imotski, Trogir, Drnis, Knin, Zadar, Nin, Pag, Hvar, Stari grad, Makarska, Novalja, Rab, Cres, Bakar, krk, Vrbnik, Rijeka, Trsat , Kastav, Opatija, Volosko, Lovran, Labin, Rovinj, Raša, Pula, Vodnjan, Poreč, Motovun, Grožnjan, Otočac, Karlovac, Jastrebarsko, Sisak, Zagreb, Varaždin, Čakovec, Osijek, Vukovar, Vinkovci, Đakovo, Pazin and Grožnjan . Almost 4.000 visitors to 50 destinations throughout Croatia at the same time participated in a free guided tour by local tourist guides. And that is to make citizens aware of all cultural and tourist contents and turn them into ambassadors of our tourism. Photo: ZDTVH Ask the locals – the mantra of tourism is because the locals know their destination best. Also, often the local population has a syndrome of “inferiority” in the context that they do not recognize their tourist trump cards enough because they are there in front of their noses, something everyday and do not experience them in the same way as tourists. And that is why it is extremely important to make the local population aware to be proud, to preserve and nurture their cultural and historical heritage, identity and way of life. Authenticity is the very essence of tourism. This is the summary of the third edition of the project “Meet your country” organized by the Association of Croatian Tourist Guides (ZDTVH).
