Sign up for our COVID-19 newsletter to stay up-to-date on the latest coronavirus news throughout New York A Mastic teenager was sentenced Monday to 20 years to life in prison for his role in the shooting death of a 21-year-old man during a Medford repair shop robbery on Christmas two years ago.Cesar Figueroa pleaded guilty to second-degree murder last month at Suffolk County court.Prosecutors said the 19-year-old man and his accomplice, 21-year-old Brandon Davis of Bridgehampton, demanded cash from four people before shooting them all at Whitestar MTR on Cedarhurst Avenue on Dec. 25, 2013.Figueroa shot three people who suffered non-life-threatening injuries and Davis fired the shots that killed Bristel.Davis was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced last month to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
SACO — Middle-schoolers from Mount Desert Island girls’ and boys’ teams helped win tournament championship games this weekend at the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Maine Hoops U.S. Canadian Challenge.The Downeast Basketball Club Warriors, a team of eighth-grade boys from MDI and Ellsworth, went 3-0 to become champions at the tournament this weekend. In the final, the Warriors went against a team from Barre, Vt., winning 54-48.Team members are Owen Mild and Colby Lee of Tremont, James McConomy and Billy Kerley of Bar Harbor, Andrew Phelps of Southwest Harbor, Alden Fournier of Mount Desert and Sam Giffin, Jared Hamilton, Zach Harris and Bradley Smith of Ellsworth.They team has been invited to the Zero Gravity Nationals held in Boston on June 13 as well as a national tournament in Virginia in July.This is placeholder textThis is placeholder textA seventh grade girls’ team based in Bangor, called the Northstars, includes Maddy Candage of Bar Harbor.
