Winds cause power outages in Clark County

first_imgCold, blustery winds kept Clark Public Utilities crews busy with outages Monday afternoon and night.No injuries or fires had been reported.As of 9 p.m., after crews had done their jobs, only 10 customers were out of electricity in the Orchards area and 154 in the La Center/Ridgefield area, according to the utility’s Outages Map.About 8:30 p.m. Monday night, an official with the National Weather Service said the winds were being pushed from the east through the Columbia River Gorge, a giant funnel channeling the cold air. Wind speeds were fastest the closer one got to the Gorge.On Crown Point in Oregon, there were gusts of 60 to 65 mph. On the Glenn Jackson Bridge, cars were being buffeted by 35 mph winds.In the middle of this week, winds could calm a bit, but they may become stronger and more gusty by the weekend, the weather official said.
